Judges at the ready as record number of nominations flood in for 2022 Scottish Financial Services Awards
The annual awards, sponsored by EY, are taking place on 27 October at the Doubletree by Hilton, Glasgow Central
A record 73 nominations have been submitted for this year’s Scottish Financial Services Awards, the annual ceremony to recognise the contributions that both firms and their people have made to the sector and to wider society.
The surge in nominations comes as plans continue for the first full-scale ceremony for the awards since the pandemic took hold in 2019. The financial services industry has been through major changes since then, helping the economy withstand the major shock of covid-19, making ground-breaking net zero commitments at COP26 in Glasgow, and now supporting customers, colleagues and communities through the cost-of-living crisis.
The awards have been updated to reflect these challenges and align with the financial services sector strategy, with four brand new categories covering the industry’s response to economic recovery, net zero, changing customer needs, and skills and inclusion.
Judging for the awards is taking place on 1st September. This year’s judges include:
Sandy Begbie CBE, Chief Executive, Scottish Financial Enterprise
Philip Grant, Chair, Scottish Financial Enterprise
Selina Hales, Chief Executive, Refuweegee
Anna Lane, President, Women in Banking & Finance (WiBF)
Sarah Roughead, Interim CEO, Scottish National Investment Bank
Bruce Cartwright, Chief Executive, ICAS
Kirsteen Kearney, Vice President of Operations at Barclays Investment Bank, and winner of last year’s Rising Star Award
Nicola Anderson, Chief Executive, Fintech Scotland
Sandy Begbie CBE, Chief Executive, Scottish Financial Enterprise, said:
“The launch of SFE’s strategy last year has underpinned a growing industry-wide focus on the shared priorities that are helping us become a stronger, fairer and more inclusive industry, at the forefront of the sustainable economic recovery - priorities that have only become more important as we face down an accelerating cost-of-living crisis. I’m delighted by the volume of entries we have received for the awards this year, each one of which illustrates the different ways this vision is being delivered by people and businesses from across Scottish financial services.”
Sue Dawe, EY Head of Financial Services for Scotland, and SFE board director, said:
“The awards are an important moment for Scottish financial services to come together, reflect on the progress we have made, and celebrate the most inspiring examples of success from across the industry. That is why EY is proud to continue as event sponsor. The number and quality of entries for this year’s awards has been outstanding, and reflects the huge progress of the industry over the past 12 months. The calibre of our judging panel this year is similarly impressive, and with the huge amount of entries received, they certainly have their work cut out for them.”
Kirsteen Kearney, judge on this year’s panel and winner of last year’s Rising Star award, added:
“The Rising Star is typically someone who is making positive difference and change so it’s bound to be a vibrant pool of nominations. For me, I am looking for authenticity at the heart of nominee – someone who is truly living the reason(s) for their nomination. Good luck to all nominees”
